The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), founded in 1945, is a UK royal charter awarded health and safety organisation committed to the vision of creating a safer and healthier world of work. Being an independent and not-for-profit organisation, it offers vast repertoire of health and safety qualifications for wide range of people irrespective of their area of work, position or expertise. Besides safety qualifications, IOSH claims the position of one and only organisation across the world to offer Chartered membership (Affiliate Member, Associate Member, Technical Member, Graduate member) to health and safety practitioners, where the status of membership helps the practitioners to achieve the highest professional standards. IOSH developed a scheme called Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for knowledge enhancement and identifying skill gaps. This scheme is made compulsory to all its chartered members for a structured career path and to retain the professional status. With more than 46,000 members and 13,000 Chartered Safety and Health Practitioners, IOSH regulates safety standards and provides expert advice and guidance on health and safety issues to both individuals and industries for ensuring "zero harm" in the workplace.
